More than 1000 licenses revoked in the Netherlands

In the past few days, more than 1000 call signs have been removed from the register at the Telecom Agency. PI4RAZ writes this on its website. The probable cause is a combination of cancellation and non-payment. This means that the number of active call signs has changed in a week from 13,254 active amateurs to 12,188. An astonishing difference.

Maybe many hams don’t like FT8 85% of the hams is active with that mode. 2 meter and 70 cm are practically abandoned. Only in the weekends there is more activity on HF due to contesting. But if you don’t like contesting, maybe you give up your license. Or going back to CB radio (27 MHz)

  1. Hello Paul. I think the reason FT8 is so popular and SSB less so may be because no one really has anything to talk about any longer. Years ago, when most radio gear was built by the amateur, on-the-air conversation was technically related. There was a genuine desire...need...to exchange information on home-brewing projects. As more and more amateurs purchased assembled rigs, technical QSOs became less frequent which led to so much radio trash-talk heard on the bands today.

I was never a CB operator but I have heard some of it and the subjects and language are not so different than that found on too many amateur radio frequencies.

Why go through the time, trouble, and effort to obtain an amateur radio license in order to be offensive on the amateur radio bands when none of the above is required to be offensive on the old CB.

73 de Dick. Still pounding brass.

    1. Hi Dick, ragchew QSO's are seldom nowadays. I think your right about the time we builded our own stuff. The equipment nowadays is very good, and I can't compete with it. In the early days I was active with CB radio together with my dad. Waiting for skips into Italy. Later we both had a license for amateur radio. But the conversation on CB radio were exactly the same as on 2 meters FM. What I hear on the local repeater, I don't use that. I avoid talks about politics and corona. I still like CW and some times SSB contacts. I am bored with digi modes. Going back to CB radio was a joke. ;-) 73 Paul

  2. Hallo Paul,

73, Bas
