Is CB radio something from the past?

Is CB radio dead? Not in the USA. This is a really nice video about CB activity on 27 MHz. The only activity here in the Netherlands is about a few guy's with FM. Normally a dead band. This video reminds me about the good old days.

  2. Good evening Paul, it was CB radio that sparked my interest in ham radio. Way back when I was on CB radio the solar cycle was at it's tops and DX was very easy to come by and that really moved me in the direction of ham radio.

    1. Hi Mike, me too, I was active on CB with my dad (PD0DCZ sk), before I was a ham operator. A few years later we both made a exam for a radio amateur license. I think most of us were interested in CB radio. 73, Paul

  3. The mid-80s and CB were what whetted my appetite for radio, like most others of that period, it seems.

Why can't we have a little bit of fun (with CB)? Well, in the UK, it was because there was a class-based attitude to it. Hams were often career electrical engineers, born in the pre-WW2 era and full of self-serving prejudice against those who just wanted to enjoy simple radio. It was the same reason that non-CW operators were not allowed below 30MHz, despite the fact that those bands were full of SSB as well as CW! Bring back CB, and let people discover the joy of radio!
