What is the right frequency for PSK on 40 meter?

I worked IZ2LUU Valter from Varese, Italy on 40 meter with PSK31. It was the only PSK31 station I heard on 40 meter around 13.00 UTC. I heard several times an argue about the band plan. Some CW operators claim the frequency from 7.000 - 7.040 MHz. Most PSK users are qrv between 7.037-7.039 MHz. My latest inquiry in a recent band plan told me that PSK users must go up between 7.040 - 7.050 MHz. But why don't they? Novice license holders must go between 7.050-7.060 MHz with small band digimodes. I seldom hear any PSK activity in that part of the 40 meter band. Does anybody know what beacon it is on 7.039.5?

  1. Paul, I could be mistaken, but I believe the 40 meter QRP cw calling frequency was moved from 7.040 to 7.030 to, among other things, accomodate digital operations. Finally agreed to even by QRP ARCI.

  2. I thought it was 7.035. But I see the default in Digipan is 7.070. ??

  3. Hi Dick, when I checked the VERON handbook, I read that 7000 - 7040 is intended for CW. 7040 is still the USA calling frequency for QRP. Tonight there was a cw pile up on 7037.5 KHz. Normally the PSK frequency. It's rather confusing. 73 Paul

  4. Hi Casey, 7070 is intended for phone. The last few years is 7035 - 7038 in use for PSK31. But more and more CW stations are taking over. 73 Paul

73 Paul
