The DSP is great

Last night I was monitoring some HF bands. I didn't sell my FT-450 so far. There were two men interested, but they offer not enough money. And I don't give the FT-450 away as a present. Then I rather keep it. I was listening to SSB stations. Normally I spend most of my time with CW and PSK31. But now phone. I was really impressed by the DSP of the FT-450. Especially 80 meters with all that static. The DSP is wonderful. I could filter out almost every station in qrm of qrn. On 20 meter I heard 4L1AN, but he was only interested in State side. On 15 meter I heard PY5QW. On 17 meter I worked EA5KB/P Pepe from Valencia (see photo).

  1. Hello Paul,

So the FT-450 may be a keeper then? Yeah, it would be silly to give it away. Glad you are impressed with the DSP. My Icom's DSP is only AF-DSP but is quite effective and well worth switching on at times. Like yourself, I too like to make use of this great technology.
BTW "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" is an incredible book. Really enjoying it. 73 Adam

  2. Mooie QSL met vuurtorens. Zit er ook een AT in je FT450?

  3. Hello Paul. Yes, DSP can be a great help, no question about it. I would like to have seen DSP in the FT-817. I have a Timewave DSP unit that I am thinking of putting on line again. The QRN on 20 meters was terrible here yesterday. 73 Dick

  5. Hi Paul,

I am glad you have discovered how useful the DSP in the FT-450 is. :-) That is why I pointed it out in a previous comment a little while back, w.r.t FT-450 vs FT-817

    Kind Regards,

    André

  6. The advantage of the FT-450 DSP, is that it is in the IF stage. I have a bhi DSP unit inside my FT-817 which does work well enough, but being an AF DSP is not as good as the FT-450, but better then no DSP. Removes the pain when the bands are noisy!

  9. Hallo Tjeerd, ik heb geen ATU in de FT-450. Ik heb zelf een MFJ 925 autotuner. 73 Paul

  11. Hi André, yes I read your comment about the DSP of the FT-450, and your right. It is really good. Yes, we go to the final stage of the World Cup. It is Spain or Germany. I hope Germany. 73 Paul

  12. Paul,

Daarna gaat ie snel omhoog. 73 Paul

  14. Hi Paul, I have two external DSP units (BSI) that I use and it is impressive how many stations I have given good signal reports to who when I turned off the DSP I could not hear. It is also amazing how many people have fancy rigs but tell me DSP is no good simply because they do not know how to set it up. I was in our club shack recently and someone had worked a station who was very difficult to hear. After the contact was over I switched on and adjusted the DSP and band pass filters until you could hear him almost FM quality. The old boy who had been making the contact was amazed and yet he has the same rig at home. 73 Steve GW7AAV
