New wire for 20 meter

Today I made some QSO's on 20 meter. I worked E73E Igor from Bosnia Herzegovina, with 5 watt SSB. And YO8RAA Mircea from Campulung, Romania with 5 watt RTTY. I replaced my wire for the Miracle Whip, it was almost burned up. Even with 5 watt. I replaced it with thicker and solid copper wire. The SWR is 1:1 Now I am also ready for 20 meter with the FT817 for the PACC contest, this weekend. In the category QRP I will be QRV on 20, 40 and 80 meter. And the Solarflux is 94 today and SSN 71.

Enig idee hierover? 73, Bas

  2. Nice catches to Bosnia & Romania. I had my first QSO in ages yesterday in PSK with a RA4 station. I too am entering the PACC contest in the QRP section on 40M and 20M. I shall not be too serious about it though and I have decided I will use the toilet, sleep and eat during the weekend! God luck and perhaps we will speak to one another..... 73 Adam

73 Paul

Hello Adam, suppose that everybody is listing on HF and no one calls CQ, you know what will happen... silence. Sometimes you have to call CQ. Last week I let FLdigi calling CQ repeats with a 15 sec interval. I got a lot of stations who came back fore me. I wonder what my endurance will be this weekend. I surely take time for eating and toilet. ;-) and some sleep, we'll see. 73 Paul

  4. Good luck during the contest. I hope, eventually, to get involved in some of the QRP ARCI and NAQCC short sprints, etc.

I'm a believer in un-stranded wire for antennas, when possible. Sounds like that MW is doing well again.

  5. Hi Dick, the Miracle Whip is a wonderful antenna. Sorry, I can't translate the word: un-stranded. Can you describe it in another way? 73 Paul

  6. Hi Paul. Stranded wire is the usual type we come across. Small diameter twisted wire to form a whole. Un-stranded is like yours now...solid. 73 Dick

  7. Hi Dick, OK, now I understand. Yes, I think because the wire was stranded, it was almost burned up. I think that this wire is much better. 73 Paul
