SmØla Island

Conditions are at the moment (14.00 hour local time) worse on HF. On 40 meter I hear only one weak CW station. The rest of the band is completely dead. Only 20 meter were a few stations but weak to hear. When I woke up this morning I turned on WSPR on 80 meter and LA2XPA, from SmØla Island reported me. Distance: 1215 km.

  1. Hi Paul, I see a new blog design! Love the 817 picture. I looked at the 817 picture you found for my blog and I see now it is an 817 in the snow! Yeah, I have just got back to the shack for a quick 15 mins and see the conditions are appalling again. I see the sunspots have gone as well. Will we, I wonder, have to wait another 90 days for the next group to appear?? 73 Adam

  3. Nice LA catch, Paul. I am really beginning to seriously believe that there will not be any significant sunspots for the next dozen years. Perhaps no sunspots at all. 73 Dick

  4. Yeah, I too am starting to think that things may differ from the expected pattern. It has been a very long trough and who's to say we definitely will climb out of it. Records don't go back far enough for a scientific "guarantee" of predictability. And as I have said before, sometimes nature surprises us all. I will do some research on the net today and see if I can find out anything. BTW sorry my blog is such a headache Paul. When I am in town I will buy a book on "Teach Yourself html"!!! bedankt & tot ziens, Adam

  5. Hi Adam and Dick, The expectation is that the sunspot cycle 24 will start approximately May 2010. Till than we'll have to wait and explore what we can do with less conditions. 73, Paul
